Community & Standardization

The ontology maintenance strategy is guided not only by methodological and technical considerations but also by community engagement and collaborative standardization practices.

W3C Community Group for CE and DPPs

Onto-DESIDE established a W3C Community Group focused on Circular Economy and Digital Product Passports (DPPs), with the group identifier ce-dpp.

W3C Community Groups are informal open forums within the World Wide Web Consortium where participants share and discuss ideas related to web technologies. They serve as a first step towards formal technical web standards.

Mission

The group's mission is to support the technical implementation of infrastructure and applications for the Circular Economy and Digital Product Passports. Key activities include:

  • Discussing requirements set by CE and DPPs on web technologies and standards
  • Identifying standardization challenges not yet addressed
  • Sharing experiences and ideas on usage of web technologies in CE
  • Complementing the work of ISO/TC 323 on CE standardization from a technical web perspective

Ongoing discussion topics

  • Practical applications of the developed ontologies and their standardization needs
  • Feedback on challenges in implementation and use of existing web standards in CE and DPP
  • Data models specific for CE and DPP
  • Best practices in data sharing
  • Ontology integration across platforms and domains

The W3C Community Group is open to all parties interested in the technical aspects of CE and DPP implementation. Join here

RDA FAIR Mappings Working Group

To ensure that ontology alignments are as interoperable and reusable as possible, Onto-DESIDE joined the FAIR Mappings Working Group at the Research Data Alliance (RDA).

Objectives

The working group collaborates with various communities to develop common guidelines making ontology mappings FAIR — Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable.

CEON contribution

CEON-related mappings were proposed as a case study within the working group, providing example mappings to support the group's goals. This complements alignment work at other venues such as the CE track at OAEI.
