Development Process

This section describes how CEON was developed — the methodology, design decisions, and tooling used to create and maintain the ontology network.

Overview

CEON follows the eXtreme Design (XD) modular ontology engineering approach, where each relevant topic (actors, processes, resources, etc.) is developed as a separate ontology module that can be independently reused.

The development process is iterative in three rounds and driven by:

  1. Domain requirements collected from use case partners in the Onto-DESIDE project
  2. Competency questions that the ontology must be able to answer
  3. Ontology Design Patterns (ODPs) that provide reusable building blocks
  4. Ontology Evaluation that identify issues in the development
  5. Alignment with existing ontologies to improve semantic interoperability
